The Advantages of Custom-Built Homes by Westills Co.
It’s not surprising that custom home owners are a picky lot. They typically don't want a home built on the same floor plan as the house three doors down the street. They prefer a well-built home that reflects their own tastes, lifestyle and needs.
Finding the home that’s “just right” involves – first and foremost – finding an experienced, qualified builder who understands and appreciates what you’re looking for in a custom home.
An experienced builder can help you select everything from the right architectural style to selecting the floor plans and materials that will make your custom home your “dream home.”
The advantage of a custom-built home is the opportunity to make decisions about everything from the size of the master bedroom down to the finish on the front door’s hardware. All the while their knowledge of building materials and products allow for a keen eye on budget and deadlines. This is why you need a builder you can trust.

Benefits of a Custom Home
Custom homes stand out from the crowd. They are each one-of-a-kind and are typically upscale with luxury upgrades and unique architectural design. These homes can be more stylized than many production homes—a buyer can contract anything from a luxury log cabin in the woods of Vermont to a pueblo-style home in New Mexico. Home buyers choose their ideal location and environment, so custom homes often incorporate elements of the landscape into the design and can be built to fit each sites’ outstanding feature; whether that is a view of the ocean, a natural stream, or the distinct colors and plants of a desert landscape.
New Homes are Less Expensive to Maintain
For example, for routine maintenance expenses, 26% of all homeowners spent $100 or more a month on various upkeep costs. However, only 11% of owners of newly constructed homes spent this amount. In fact, 73% of new homeowners spent less than $25 a month on routine maintenance costs. Similar findings are available for energy expenses. On a median per square foot basis, homeowners spent 78 cents per square foot per year on electricity. Owners of new homes spent 65 cents per square foot per year. For homes with piped gas, homeowners spent on average 53 cents per square foot per year. Owners of new homes spent 38 cents per square foot per year.
